Our 35 Resident Artists are professionals, working on-site, and many offer classes that students can take advantage of. We offer children’s classes for students from 1st grade through high school. Adult classes are also listed below. Subjects for all ages include, painting (any medium), drawing, print-making (wood-cut & linoleum block printing), sculpture, ceramics and even art-history with a hands on element of creating artwork in the themes of past artists. Also digital mediums of computer animation, claymation, design and photography classes can be designed to fit your interests.

Basic Art Class for Children, ages 5-9

Ceramics for Children, ages 6 – 12

- Clay is an exciting and magical material. In ceramics class, children will learn the art and craft of clay while having fun and exploring their creativity. In this unique pottery program it is a hands-on experience while learning the techniques of shaping clay into pinch pots, designing and constructing slab projects, building unique coil vessels, clay decoration, and glazing. Figure Workshop (Uninstructed)
- Nude figure drawing and painting workshop. Usually gesture warm-up poses for the first 25 minutes, then 25-minute long poses for remainder of night. Every 3 or 4 weeks, we do a single long pose all night. We start at precisely 7:01 so get there beforehand to set-up and do a meet-n-greet and get a cup of wine.

From Beginning Drawing to Advanced Painting
- Level: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
This course will cover the fundamentals of Portrait Drawing and Painting through the use of shapes, values, color and edges. We will go over materials, techniques and tips on constructing the head and creating a likeness. Each week, we will paint from a live model and will receive individual instruction and critiques. Instructor demonstration on the first day. - Applicants under the age of 18 are required to submit a portfolio of 6-10 images by email or in person. Space is limited to 10 students. Register today!

Workshops for Adults
LETS DRAW!!! 10-week Drawing Class
Begins Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 7:00PM
Description: The way we see the world shapes our world-view and how we approach life and our relationships. The ability to “see” is one of the most important aspects of creating a drawing. Developing the art of observation will be the principal aspect of this class.
We will be learning to gaze at a subject, discovering relationships between shapes, looking for subtle shifts in light and shadow, composition, perspective and many other tools for creating an accurate rendering of any subject. With graphite in hand, we will be working on class projects, and will also be asked to follow-up each week in your sketch journal.
Costs $300 for 10-week course. (1/19 — 3/22, 2012)

Beginning Weaving on the 4 Harness Loom
February 4, 9 – 4:30 & 5, 12 – 4, 2012
If you’ve decided to learn to weave on a 4 harness loom, this is the class for you. You will learn the basics of weaving by preparing the warp, warping your loom from front to back, weaving your sampler and finishing the fabric. Learn to weave and receive many weaving tips during the workshop. You will receive a booklet with complete instructions for setting up and weaving your project along with a goody bag of weaving supplies.

Weave a Pattern Gamp
March 17, 9 – 4:30, & 18, 12 – 4, 2012
Learn how different threadings create different patterns depending on the treadling you use on a 4 harness loom. In this class you will weave a sampler with several patterns. Ability level – beginning and beyond weavers, but must have some knowledge/experience with weaving.

When Deborah discovered weaving in 1996, her life-long love of fiber, texture, and color came together and she soon became a full time weaver. Since then she has created hundreds of garments and accessories for sale and her work has appeared in many national and international exhibits. Although known mostly for her success with rayon chenille wearable art, she weaves many different one-of-a kind items including large scale commissioned wall pieces. She has won numerous awards and has written for Handwoven Magazine. Since 2004 she has been an Artist-in-Residence, a teacher, and weaver at Studio Channel Islands Art Center in Camarillo, CA. where she was instrumental in developing the Fiber Art Studio. Deborah gives programs and teaches workshops for conferences, guilds and fiber groups.
