Artists’ Reception and Awards:  Saturday, March 3rd, 4pm – 6pm

“CROSS-POLLINATION: New Use of Materials for New Ideas” is open to all mixed media. We welcome the utilization of multiple art-making systems and/or multiple media – i.e.: printmaking systems integrated with painting; 3-D sculpture integrated with 2-D graphics. The idea is that one system could influence/inform another creative system. We encourage artists to break out of their standard approach of using only one medium and incorporate additional media and systems.

Submissions are closed, but be sure to put the artist reception on your calendar MAY 7th, from 4-6 PM at the Studio Channel Islands Gallery.

Studio Channel Islands Art Center invites artists to submit traditional as well as unconventional floral works for a juried exhibition “Floral Anthology” at the Studio Channel Islands Gallery.

The exhibition will be juried and judged by Tony Askew, Professor of Art, Westmont College. Tony Askew has worked as an educator and artist for over 35 years. “I continually hope that my work reflects the optimism and zeal that life holds for me. Ideally I like my work to combine three things: a child-like quality, positive and uninhibited; Eastern awareness of tradition and ceremony as necessary to the act of creating; and the sense of a work shifting away from the subject (and from realism) toward process (activity) doing, seeing, and inventing.”

Three cash awards will be given. In addition, Tony Askew will award Honorable Mentions.

Images can be submitted electronically via email or mailed to the Gallery as a Photo CD. The submission deadline is April 15th, 2011.
