Halloween in Old Town

Amelia JobeThe Green Lantern, an Indian princess, a clown, Batman and a vampire descended on Studio Channel Islands Art Center in Old Town Camarillo to decorate treat bags and compete in a costume contest sponsored by the Camarillo Chamber of Commerce as part of the Old Town Halloween on Saturday, Oct. 29.

“The artists are always on board for all of our Old Town events,” said Lara Shapiro, marketing director for the chamber.

Studio Channels Islands’ Artists-in-Residence helped children decorate treat bags using paper cutouts of cats, spiders and bones, and potato stamps shaped like ghosts and pumpkins.

“We prepared the potatoes yesterday for the kids to use as stamps,” artist in residence Christine Leong said. Leong specializes in Asian watercolor paintings on rice paper. She passed out candy to the trick-or-treaters.
