“If you want to know the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” -Nikola Tesla

What we perceive as our physical material world, is really not physical or material at all. We perceive and experience the world as a series of solid objects existing in a constructed space: a painting, a chair, an elephant… When we encounter something solid, what we are experiencing is what physicists refer to as a “holistic entanglement of immaterial energy waves” and it iis this entanglement that ultimately forms what we perceive as solid. Our world is “an independently existing objective one” where reality is created by the observer in an ongoing interactive experience with the solid world.”

This exhibition will examine Everything That Is Solid as expressed through the ancient medium of encaustic. Encaustic exemplifies the notion of Solid through the physical properties of density, weight and structure but unlike other phases of matter, encaustic begins its journey to Solid from a liquid phase. Encaustic goes beyond what we perceive as solid and encompasses fluid matter through the molten state.

Everything That Is Solid also asks us to consider the metamorphic parallel between the ransmulation of the encaustic medium and the tangible manifestation of energy and vibration as it relates to our everyday experiences with the solid world. Looking beyond the objective world, we must also consider a deeper level of engagement to recognize our own energy, frequency and vibration that expresses our unique energy signature.

Because of its versatility, encaustic painting lends itself perfectly to the concept of solid and all phases of matter. This exhibition will showcase the work of contemporary artists working in distinctly different styles that incorporate encaustic into their work. The artwork exhibited will be of varied styles and genres: conceptual art, abstract painting, mixed media and photography, providing a diverse artistic experience for the viewer.
