Cedar Waxwings and Toyon berries provide me with a distinct sense of time and place. The Cedar Waxwing migrates through Ventura in the fall, where it feeds on the berries of the California native Toyon plant. The colorful, waxy excretions on its wings are the result of excess pigments in its diet.
