Peter Francis Radford – July 7th, 1969, Santa Barbara, California.
I started painting in my childhood, and was inspired by my older brother David who painted celestial landscapes and space art. I switched from oil painting to watercolors in 2014 in an attempt to better capture cloudscapes as they are in Nature. Watercolors have an unparalleled ability to flow and mix in natural ways, closely mimicking true cloud forms.
I love to paint the brightness and beauty of the coast. I grew up surfing in California and am obsessed with waves, cliffs, rocks, whitecaps, and open shorelines. My current artistic goal is to scour the coast and capture its essence by doing an ongoing series of paintings. Utilizing the Mind of Watercolor, guided by my hand and vision, I am conjuring skies and scenery revealing the mood and feeling of being there, as the observer.
I am an avid surfer and am very familiar with the California and Oregon Coasts, having spent the majority of my life in California and seven years in Oregon. I am inspired by all the moods, luminosity, and angles of various wave forms when I am out in the water. Specifically, I am trying to capture the bright, shiny essence of the scenery, while adding some color and playfulness as I paint.
In my 50’s now, it takes significant effort to keep my body in shape and able to surf. My day-job is fitting to the task. During the workweek I am a Substitute Teacher; a flexible position with earlier [than corporate] release times to go to the beach!
