Rebecca threw her first pot while studying in India during college. After returning home, she took classes in Vermont. College, graduate school, and eventually a teaching position found her hauling a kick wheel, a small kiln, and bags of clay to each new location. Her professional career as a history teacher, administrator, researcher was kept sane with a parallel career in clay. She studied with Donald Mavros in New York City where she was also a member of 78th Street Pottery; with Eric Abraham and others at SummerVail Arts in Colorado where she was an assistant for several years. She joined the Pot Shop Ceramic Studio in Venice after moving to Los Angeles, and studied with Melody Cooper at Pierce College, CA. She is experimental in her approach with clay and embraces both form and technique. Over the years she has taken workshops, many with pioneers in the field including Maria Martinez, Patti Warshina, Steven Hill; and alternative firing techniques with Charlie Riggs, Don Ellis, and Randy Brodnax.
