Susan Leeper Gerrard A.I.R
Gerrard is a ceramic sculptor artist long intrigued by parallels between the luminosity and unpredictability of ceramic glazes and watercolor paints. Recently she began exploring watercolor, which is what she concentrates upon today.
Figure and gesture drawing often plays a part in Gerrardªs work. A series of large tile puzzle pieces examines the minutiae of our living spaces, where we reveal what we like, love, or wish we didnªt need. An abstract clay sculpture series borrows and violates the flower form, inviting the viewer to find the pieces either appealing or disturbing. For fun, fish are always a favorite subject.
Gerrard holds a BFA in ceramics from Otis Art Institute/Parsons School of Design, and studied at the Laguna Beach School of Art & Design and at Ventura College. After a career in the television industry, she and her husband retired to Ventura County, where she was marketing director for the Museum of Ventura County until her recent second (and last) retirement.
