“I have spent my entire life telling stories…my sculpture work is no different. I see each one as a single frame of film, a moment in the story.”
Daniel Stern is a beloved actor, artist, director, and screenwriter. Perhaps best known for his roles in the Home Alone and City Slickers films, Stern also found his way into our hearts as the adult voice of Kevin in the Wonder Years. Throughout his varied career as performer, director and writer Stern has built an impressive body of sculpture. His public art projects include installations in San Diego, Pasadena, Palm Desert, Temple City, Monrovia, and Agoura Hills. He has completed many private commissions and exhibited his work in contemporary galleries and art fairs.
In this talk Stern invites you to peek inside his studio and see how he works, what inspires him and what he is currently working on. Stern has created a body of work which references the glamour and excitement of the stage and screen. His sculptures recall characters from a story that is familiar and yet elusive, an unfolding narrative of which we catch just a glimpse in a single character frozen in motion.

Armen Guzelimian & Don Harper via Zoom October 10th @ 1 pm
Armen Guzelimian is a celebrated concert pianist and highly versatile collaborative artist. He has received critical acclaim for his soloist appearances in many of the major concert halls across Europe and America and as a recording artist his performances are represented on numerous labels including EMI. Don Harper is a composer, songwriter, conductor and arranger for film, stage and live events. His numerous film credits include The Guardian, National Treasure, Training Day, Armageddon, The Rock, Twister, Broken Arrow, Assassins, and Speed and his first CD project Dreams and Variation is a hybrid of musical forms performed by 70 piece orchestra live on the Eastwood Stage at Warner Bros.
In this talk Armen will discuss the importance and impact that a music soundtrack has on a film. He and Don will show with live and recorded examples how a musical theme can enhance or guide a viewer’s emotional responses to the film.
This talk is in anticipation of Armen’s next live performance at Studio Channel Islands in collaboration with soprano Monica Schober. They will present a visually enhanced concert of the music of emigre Viennese/Austrian composers who fled to Hollywood in the early half of the 20th century, and who, upon arrival in Los Angeles, defined the golden era of film soundtracks that have become classics.
