How to get the best out of Your Drive-In Experience

Now that the pandemic has temporarily closed traditional in-door theaters many organizations are reviving outdoor venues or creating new outdoor experiences. This movement outdoors brings with it new restrictions and requires a little more planning than a traditional trip to the theater.

Drive-in advice

Arrive at the ‘Gate Open’s time and you won’t miss a thing. We have planned the program to start when everyone is settled and ready so the gates will open an hour before the program starts.

Remember social distancing. We will abide by the safety restrictions which are current when the event happens but if we are allowed to exit vehicles on the night you will still need to keep those 6 apart and wear a mask.

Do bring a face covering and wear it whenever you exit your vehicle.

Go before you go and time your restroom visits when you get here. There are limited numbers of restrooms on site and assuming that the restricts allow for visits to these facilities we don’t want lines to form. Please consider timing your visit to avoid lines even if this means missing a few minutes of the movie.

Bring a blanket and a beverage. It may get cold and your cars can’t be left running during the show so plan for your comfort with warm clothes or blankets.

Drive in theater etiquette hasn’t changed but our devices have. When you park turn off your car’s lights, including the dome lights inside your vehicle. Your engine must be switched off, but your windows can be rolled down. Please silence your phone and refrain from making calls during the show.

Sound advice

We will be using an FM radio transmitter to send the sound directly into your car. You can control the volume but do be aware that if you have an old battery it might go flat. You can preserve your car’s battery by bringing a portable radio.

We will have jumper cables handy to help anyone whose battery dies and remember the AAA mobile battery service can be here in less than an hour.

If your car hasn’t been driven for a while, consider going up the coast the day before to recharge your car battery. Normal driving on the motorway will recharge your battery in 30 minutes but in town it can take an hour.

Exiting your car

The limitations on exiting your vehicle during the event will be made clear to you in the week running up to the Gala. These restrictions are for your safety and we have a plan for you to enjoy the full event from inside your car, you won’t be missing out by staying safe. We also have plans in place for concession stands and additional elements of program should the current restrictions be lifted. Your safety and comfort is our primary concern and so we will ensure that all elements of the program can be delivered to your car.
