Artist Talk by W. Scott Miles “Using Technology for Artistic Expression” on Saturday, November 17th, 2018 at 1:00-2:30 p.m. Note change of date to the 17th of November.
We are all bound by the confines of time and space. But an artist can break those confines to present a new vision. I manipulate time and space through slow-motion video and macro-imaging to challenge the viewer’s perceptions and relationships with the world around them.
W. Scott Miles leverages technology to present experiential video installations that could not have been created without advanced imaging systems. As a Photography MFA teacher, Scott worked with his students to explore the connections between the media and the message in their artwork. He will discuss how technology influences and enables artistic expression, and how artists choose technology that best suits their expression. For more information, go to www.wscottmiles.com
Susan Petty:
The impetus for my work in this exhibit is focused on the the paradox of images which are at once both simple and complex. The patterns of simple subjects, the glimmer of water, or the surface of tree bark rendered in complex detail. I will be working in three mediums, oil, graphite and watercolor.
My intention beyond the elements of shapes, textures, colors, and line is to evoke an emotional response in me. The ultimate aim is to find my truth and what motivates in my discovery process are water and Farm Workers. My sanctuary is water and where I most feel alive. The Farm Workers vocalize my generational and inherited feelings of being autonomous and marginalized. Two totally different subjects that are elemental parts of me.
