Karly Kennedy
Alpenglow

Porcelain, 21” x 16” x 8”, 2022

Physical Description:
The main structure of this sculpture is made with porcelain paper clay. It is covered in coils of colored porcelain which are then flattened into a textured pattern onto the surface. The ridge is finished with small coils of colored porcelain.
Intention:
The change of season has me “turning off’ earlier than in the hustle of the warmer months. As the nights come to a close, there is the fiery golden embrace of the sun just before it plunges into the sea. Every evening as I look at the mountains they are painted with red and orange – one last gift from the sun before it fades away. This phenomenon which is also seen at dawn is called alpenglow. For me, it’s the promise of more gifts tomorrow, so long as I take time to slow down and notice them.
