Tom Kimbrell

Tom Kimbrell b. 1953
Oxnard, CA

Tom Kimbrell has been scavenging local beaches for discarded treasures for most of his life. He often finds his inspiration from the patina created by the elements on a variety of organic materials and decomposing metal objects. The closer to dissolution the more attractive a portion of found detritus becomes.

In his work he seeks to emulate both nature’s and time’s impacts through processes such as abrading, degrading, layering, reducing and assembling.

This particular body of work was inspired by the array of colors that were left behind on a block wall after a trash can fire.

Tom Kimbrell has a keen eye and sharp intellect both which serve his work well, along with his being a highly skilled and meticulous craftsman.
